Placid Waters

Placid Waters

Vividly, the surface of the water shimmers in tones of emerald and lime green. A young man floats horizontally, appearing suspended just below the choppy surface. His strong torso stretches across the frame, clad only in small, saturated crimson swimming briefs. Notice how the ripples above him refract the sunlight into pinpricks of brilliance across the canvas. His arms are bent and raised, cradling his head against the dark, submerged mass he rests upon. The interplay of shadow and warmth defines every ridge of his abdomen, a study in physicality; his skin seems to glow where it is touched by the high midday sun. Scattered across his arms and shoulder are complex, ink-black tattoos, their dark patterns temporarily subdued by the surface reflections. Looking directly at the viewer, his expression is calm, perhaps evaluating. There is an absolute stillness in his face that contrasts sharply with the constantly moving, textured water surrounding him. This painted moment captures the deep relaxation of escaping into the cool, embracing current on a very hot day.
